In view of the results accomplished by the American raiders on Hong Kong, the inhabitants can smile complacently to learn that millions of the people of the United Nations are being fooled by their propagandists. (This was comment in a local paper regarding Allied propaganda concerning the Hong Kong raid.) In view of the intense ack-ack, the raiders did not dare descend, but bombed from a great height and missed. Most of the bombs fell in the harbour, a few gasoline drums were ignited in the harbour area. One enemy bomber lagged behind and appeared to be damaged by accurate ack-ack fire. Immediately after, fast Japanese fighters ascended and it is reported that another bomber was destroyed. Throughout the raid, the population was calm and life was uninterrupted. No black-out was imposed and the hot reception given by the Japanese fighters only permitted the raiders to kill a few Chinese. The Americans raided Hong Kong in order to regain their lost prestige among the Asiatics, but the Chinese, seeing the Japanese behaviour during the raid now know Japanese sincerity. The se nuisance

raids cannot fool the inhabitants of Hong Kong and a hundred such raids will not make the slightest difference to the outlook of the city. Some people think the raid was a prelude to an invasion - these people are crazy.
